Verdict ⭐ Best backward compat ⭐ Best image quality

The O3 and O4 Air Unit are DJI digital systems that pack camera, VTX and receiver (with a DJI controller) into a single module, with low latency around 20-30 ms. The O4 is the direct evolution of the O3. The real question is usually not which has the better picture, but which goggles sit behind it.

Image and sensor

The O4 uses a new sensor and codec, and the jump shows: a sharper image, better dynamic range and better low-light behaviour. The O3 still delivers an excellent, well-proven picture, but it comes from an earlier generation. If raw video quality is your top priority, the O4 is ahead.

Goggles and compatibility

This is what really decides it. The O3 works with more goggles: DJI Goggles V2, Integra and Goggles 3. The O4 needs newer goggles, the DJI Goggles 3 or Goggles N3 (verified in 2026 that the N3 support the O4), with an RC3 or RC Motion controller. Before you look at the camera, look at which goggles you own or plan to buy: that dictates the air unit.

Price and who it's for

The O3 has come down in price and is the more sensible pick today if you already fly O3 goggles or want to spend less. The O4 sits in a similar range depending on the kit, so price alone doesn't settle it. Choose the O3 if you're reusing goggles you already have; choose the O4 if you're starting fresh and want the newest system.
